Dr. Adrien Guyot

Associate Professor, Literature and Language

After pursuing studies in Hypokh芒gne and Kh芒gne and at the University of Lorraine, focusing in particular on Tim Burton鈥檚 glorification of deviancy, I left my native France for the University of Alberta in Canada where my experience abroad led me to develop an altered perspective towards francophone literature and embrace a new exciting academic journey. In 2009, I completed a M.A. in which I examined the notion of monstrosity in the development of Caribbean and Qu茅b茅cois literature. In 2016, I obtained a PhD from the University of Alberta. My dissertation, entitled L鈥橝m茅rique, un ailleurs partag茅 (America: A Shared Elsewhere) explored this time around the concept of Americanity, the subversive, postcolonial and symbolic re-appropriation of the American continent by the cultural minorities of the Americas. I am a proud member of the Canadian Literature Centre, which actively seeks to celebrate Canada鈥檚 best authors and introduce our newest talents to the public. My current areas of research include heterotopian spaces and dystopian fictions, and the contemporary manifestations of false nostalgia in American literary and filmmaking production.

I teach a vast range of subjects, from language courses (FR 101 to 252) to third-year literature courses (FR 303, 312), as well as linguistics (FR 372).
